It’s Official: The Rock is Playing Black Adam

Shazam? …or Black Adam?

Shazam? …or Black Adam?

After months of back-and-forth speculation and teases by The Rock himself, actor Dwayne Johnson, we finally have our answer- The Rock will be playing DC villain Black Adam in the upcoming Shazam movie.

Less than an hour ago, the charasmatic actor tweeted this:

Dwayne Johnson @TheRock

“Kneel at his feet or get crushed by his boot.” My honor to become.. #BlackAdam #TheAntiHero

There can be no mistaking it now.

For those who don’t know, Shazam (previously known as Captain Marvel) is actually a little boy named Billy Bastian. Upon meeting an old wizard (also named Shazam), Billy was granted the ability to transform into the adult superhero with a variety of powers based on Soloman, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury -hence the acronym “Shazam”.

Black Adam is another being who had been granted the same wish, only instead of protecting the innocent had used it to further his own interests. Having developed a powerful God-complex, Black Adam was furious to learn of Shazam’s existence and became obsessed with hunting him down and destroying him.

The lead role of Shazam has not been cast and the movie has no official release date as of this time.
